About
RideShare is a regional program focused on helping people reduce the cost and stress of their daily commute. We connect commuters and employers with practical transportation options, resources, and support at no cost.
Operated by the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission in cooperation with the Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission, we provide personalized assistance to help residents and employers explore alternative commute options such as carpooling, vanpooling, and transit.
Find carpool partners or coordinate vanpools tailored to your schedule and route.
Commute with confidence knowing you have a free ride home in the event of an emergency.
Support for using regional Park & Ride facilities, including trip-planning assistance.
Direct consultation and tools to help employers improve commute options for their workforce.
We partner with the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) and their Virginia-wide ConnectingVA program to provide free ridematching, trip planning, and information on park-and-ride lots, bike share, EV charging stations, and rewards. Our program serves the cities of Buena Vista, Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Lexington, Staunton and Waynesboro, and the counties of Albemarle, Augusta, Bath, Fluvanna, Greene, Highland, Louisa, Nelson, Rockbridge and Rockingham.
The free ConnectingVA mobile app, and accompanying desktop website, serve three primary functions:
ConnectingVA is a website and app created by the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) to provide a central resource for Virginians to learn about, access, and make use of transit options that meet their needs. DRPT partners with and provides funding to commuter assistance programs, operated by transit agencies, local governments, planning agencies, and transportation management associations throughout the Commonwealth.
RideShare is a commuter assistance program with the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) and utilizes their Virginia-wide ConnectingVA program to provide free ridematching to find carpools, vanpools, and all forms of public transportation, trip planning, and information on park-and-ride lots, bike share services, electric vehicle charging stations, and rewards.
The website and mobile app provide the same main functions – carpool matching, trip logging, and rewards. The app provides additional features such as third-party app integration to log bike and walking trips with Garmin and Strava.
