Commuting Smarter Together

RideShare is a regional program focused on helping people reduce the cost and stress of their daily commute. We connect commuters and employers with practical transportation options, resources, and support at no cost.

Operated by the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission in cooperation with the Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission, we provide personalized assistance to help residents and employers explore alternative commute options such as carpooling, vanpooling, and transit.

Benefits & Services

We advance commuting equity by offering comprehensive solutions:

  • Free Ridematching: Find carpool partners or coordinate vanpools tailored to your schedule and route.
  • Ride Home Rewards: Commute with confidence knowing you have a free ride home in the event of an emergency.
  • Infrastructure Support: Support for using regional Park & Ride facilities, including trip planning assistance.
  • Employer Programs: We provide direct consultation and tools to help employers improve commute options for their workforce.

We partner with the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) and their Virginia-wide ConnectingVA program to provide free ridematching to find carpools, vanpools, and all forms of public transportation, trip planning, and information on park-and-ride lots, bike share services, electric vehicle charging stations, and rewards.

Our program covers anyone who lives or works in the following areas: cities of Buena Vista, Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Lexington, Staunton and Waynesboro; and the counties of Albemarle, Augusta, Bath, Fluvanna, Greene, Highland, Louisa, Nelson, Rockbridge and Rockingham. Our database consists of hundreds of registered commuters with new commuters registering every day. It is possible that other commuters seeking to share a ride may contact you. Please note that RideShare does not sell, share, or trade the information you provide.
